1. REICHSTAG
Reichstag |
Originally
designed by Paul Wallot (completed 1894), the history of this awe-inspiring
building is intertwined with its noble architecture. A monumental building with
four immense facades, it has a huge portico with eight Corinthian columns in
front.Suffering from arson in 1933 and war-torn soon after, the Reichstag has
been twice restored (latterly by Lord Norman Foster & Partners). He
restored much of the original elements, removing the internal additions and
mezzanine floors added after the war by Paul Baumgarten, and inserted the glass
dome, which is now the most prestigious tourist spot in Berlin. The
glass-paneled dome has brought more light into the parliamentary chamber,
orchestrating light around the dome and building as never before. The dome,
with its spiraled climb-ramps, provides outstanding views over Berlin.
2. GRAND CANYON
Grand Canyon |
The Grand Canyon is a UNESCO
World Heritage Site that is located
entirely in northern Arizona and is one of the great tourist attractions in the United States. The massive canyon encompasses several distinct areas, most famous of which is Grand Canyon National Park, a United States National Park. The national park is itself divided into two main areas: the remote North Rim and the more accessible (and therefore more crowded) South Rim. In addition, the southwestern end of the canyon is located within the borders of two Indian reservations: the Havasupai Indian Reservation and the Hualapai Indian Reservation (also known as Grand Canyon West). All of the sections of the canyon offer amenities for visitors, but the national park, and in particular the South Rim, is by far the most popular destination and the best equipped to handle the millions of yearly visitors.

3. ALCATRAZ
Alcatraz |
One
of America’s most iconic sites, Alcatraz is often associated with
Chicago crime boss Al “Scarface” Capone, who was imprisoned here in the 1930s.
In fact, many A-list criminals passed through this former maximum-security
penitentiary, including dapper kidnapper George “Machine Gun” Kelly and Morton
Sobell, the military contractor found guilty of Soviet espionage along with
Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. But a visit to this National Park is more than just
seeing the inside of an old prison. See some of San Francisco‘s top
attractions on a scenic ferry ride on the bay, and take in the breathtaking
panorama of the Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge, and Angel Island; the
Ellis Island of the West.
4. NEUSCHWANSTE CASTLE
Nueschwanste Castle |
The inspiration for
Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle, Neuschwanstein is
one of the most popular castles in Europe. The fairytale charm of
Neuschwanstein Castle is also felt from the idyllic scenery of the Bavarian
Alps. During the winter, some of the best views of the snow-capped mountains
can be seen from the palace grounds. Commissioned as the private refuge for
Ludwig II of Bavaria, the castle holds many stunning highlights including the
throne room, which is magnificently appointed with frescos of angels.
